The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a comprehensive preventive healthcare programme aimed at early detection and management of lifestyle diseases, marking a significant shift from treatment-based care to a proactive health monitoring system.
47 Medical Tests Through Mobile Units
Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced that the initiative will offer 47 types of medical tests to individuals identified through statewide surveys. These tests will be conducted using 104 mobile medical units, ensuring accessibility even in remote areas. The government has earmarked ₹162 crore annually for the programme.
Focus on Early Detection and Public Health Safety
The initiative emphasizes comprehensive screening and early diagnosis to prevent diseases before they become severe. According to officials, the programme aims to strengthen public health outcomes by identifying risks at an early stage and enabling timely intervention.
Coverage of Over 56 Lakh People Annually
The scheme is expected to benefit approximately 56.4 lakh individuals every year. This includes people identified under Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) surveys and students living in welfare hostels, expanding its reach across vulnerable and at-risk populations.
Shift to Data-Driven Healthcare Model
This initiative represents a transition from the existing system, which largely focuses on treating illnesses after onset. Currently, only six basic tests are conducted at village levels using rapid kits, which often lack accuracy. The new model introduces structured health profiling and digital record-keeping.
Wide Range of Diagnostic Categories
The 47 tests will cover 11 major health categories, including:
- Liver function tests
- Urine analysis
- Lipid profile
- Blood counts
- Electrolytes and renal function
Additional screenings will include glucose levels, coagulation parameters, and ESR indicators, ensuring a thorough health assessment.
Creation of Electronic Health Records
Based on test results, individual disease profiles will be created and stored as electronic health records. This will enable continuous monitoring, better diagnosis, and targeted treatment strategies at village, mandal, and district levels.
Integration with Sanjeevani Scheme
The programme will also integrate guidance under the Sanjeevani scheme, helping individuals adopt preventive healthcare practices and manage potential health risks effectively.
Advanced Equipment in Mobile Units
In the first phase of the five-year programme, mobile medical units will be upgraded with advanced diagnostic tools such as analysers, microscopes, and incubators. Each unit will test around 20 individuals daily, covering nearly 520 people per month with complete health profiling.
Rollout Expected Within Two Months
The Health Minister has directed officials to expedite preparations, with plans to launch the programme across the state within the next two months. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s public healthcare infrastructure and set a benchmark for preventive healthcare in India.
