New Delhi, Feb 13 (IANS): A Special CBI Court in Gujarat has sentenced Suresh Marotrao Bhagatkar, a former doctor employed at Air India, to three years of rigorous imprisonment for demanding a bribe of Rs 25,000 to provide a favourable medical report. Additionally, Bhagatkar was fined Rs 1 lakh.

Case Details:

  • Accusation: Bhagatkar was charged with corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case dates back to January 3, 2011, when Bhagatkar allegedly demanded a bribe to provide a favourable blood report for a person applying for the post of Security Agent at Air India Air Transport Corporation Ltd.
  • Bribe Demand: During the investigation, it was revealed that Bhagatkar made multiple calls to the complainant, demanding Rs 25,000. He also instructed the complainant to deposit the amount into his bank account, and Rs 5,000 was transferred to the account as part of the demand.
  • Court Findings: The court examined 27 prosecution witnesses and 49 documents, and found Bhagatkar guilty of the charges.

Other CBI Cases:

  • Hotel Pine Queen Fraud: In a separate case, the CBI booked the Hotel Pine Queen owner, Sandeep Panwar, and others for defrauding Punjab National Bank (PNB) of Rs 11 crore through loan and overdraft facilities from 2012 to 2016.
  • Iron Casting Company Fraud: The CBI also registered a fraud case against M.B. Castings and three officials from Rajasthan for misappropriating Rs 9.62 crore from PNB, Jaipur, by diverting funds and misusing hypothecated goods.

The federal probe agency continues its investigations into these cases to bring those responsible to justice.
