Chandigarh — A senior resident doctor from AIIMS Delhi, Dr. G Venkatesh, was found dead in a hotel room in Daria, Chandigarh on Sunday. The 35-year-old reportedly died by suicide amid legal troubles stemming from an attempt to rape FIR filed against him earlier this year.
According to police, Dr. Venkatesh had checked into Deep Hotel on April 30. His body was discovered hanging with a bedsheet inside the room. Preliminary investigation suggests no signs of foul play, and a postmortem has been conducted. The body has been handed over to the family.
Police recovered documents related to a case filed against him in March 2025 by a female colleague, initially lodged as a zero FIR in Delhi. The case was later transferred to Adarsh Nagar Police Station in Faridabad. Despite ongoing efforts, police had been unable to trace him until his death. Dr. Venkatesh had also recently sought anticipatory bail, which was denied.
Sources indicated that he had travelled to Chandigarh possibly to consult a lawyer and had been under significant mental distress due to the ongoing investigation.
Authorities continue their inquiry, but initial findings rule out foul play.
