Assistant Professor honoured by IATSIC during International Surgical Week 2026 in Mexico City for contributions to trauma and emergency surgery
Dr Krishna Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of General Surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal, has received international recognition from the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC).
Dr Kumar was honoured with the prestigious Travel Scholar Award during International Surgical Week 2026, organised as part of the 51st World Congress of the International Society of Surgery (ISS/SIC) in Mexico City.
Recognition for Excellence in Trauma and Emergency Surgery
The award was presented in recognition of Dr Kumar’s contributions to trauma management, emergency surgery, and surgical critical care.
Before joining AIIMS Bhopal, Dr Kumar completed his MS in Surgery from Gandhi Medical College Bhopal. He joined AIIMS Bhopal in 2020 as an Assistant Professor in the Trauma and Emergency Medicine Department and is currently serving in the Department of General Surgery.

Expressing gratitude after receiving the award, Dr Kumar said being selected among the few ISS Travel Scholars was a moment of immense pride.
“I am filled with gratitude for being selected as one of the few ISS Travel Scholars. Presenting our research and engaging in sessions on advances in surgical care, education, and global surgery provided fresh perspectives that I am eager to implement,” he said.
He added that the international conference provided valuable exposure to the latest developments in surgical education, research, and patient care.
Appreciation for Mentors and International Collaboration
Dr Kumar also acknowledged the support and guidance of Prof Amit Gupta and Prof Dinesh Bagariya for encouraging his academic and professional growth.
He further thanked Prof Sherry Wren and the associate editors of the World Journal of Surgery for conducting detailed round-table discussions on scientific publishing and global surgery.
According to Dr Kumar, interactions with fellow scholars, medical students, and global surgery leaders helped build meaningful professional networks and collaborations for the future.
