Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal conducted a specialized workshop on Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) for trauma and emergency care, equipping healthcare professionals with quick and precise diagnostic skills. The ‘PACTEM 2025’ workshop emphasized the life-saving role of POCUS in emergency situations, according to an official press release on Sunday.
Significance of POCUS in Emergency Medicine
Unlike traditional ultrasounds, which provide comprehensive imaging, POCUS allows for immediate, bedside diagnosis, aiding rapid clinical decision-making in critical cases.
AIIMS Bhopal Director Dr. Ajai Singh stressed the importance of this technology:
“Every second counts in emergency medicine. POCUS enables rapid and accurate diagnoses right at the patient’s side.”
He also suggested that non-medical professionals—such as traffic police and auto-rickshaw drivers—could benefit from basic emergency care training, as they are often first responders at accident scenes.
Advancing Emergency Medicine
AIIMS Bhopal President Dr. Sunil Malik highlighted the pivotal role of emergency medicine, stating:
“Emergency medicine is the face of any hospital, making continuous advancements in emergency care essential.”
The workshop included:
✅ Hands-on training with medical educators
✅ Simulation-based learning
✅ Case study discussions
✅ High faculty-to-participant ratio
Impact on Trauma and Emergency Care
The training aims to:
🔹 Enable faster and more accurate diagnoses
🔹 Reduce wait times for critical procedures
🔹 Improve trauma survival rates
🔹 Enhance overall emergency care quality
The AIIMS Bhopal Department of Trauma and Emergency Medicine, led by Dr. Bupeshwari Patel, Dr. Pooja Thaware, and Dr. Saurabh Trivedi, organized the workshop, reinforcing AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to innovation in emergency medicine.
