Bhopal: A complaint has been lodged against a doctor from the Ophthalmology department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, accusing him of engaging in unethical activities, including operating a private store.
The written complaint alleges that the doctor runs a clinical store in Saket Nagar under his wife’s name and unlawfully performs Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) tests at the facility.
According to the complaint, the clinical store also sells medicines and contact lenses, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest and ethical violations. The complainant has demanded a full departmental investigation into the matter.
FFA Explained
Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate blood circulation in the retina and choroid of the eye. This angiography employs Fluorescein dye to provide detailed insights into the retinal blood supply. Previously, patients at AIIMS did not have access to this test and had to seek alternatives, emphasizing the need for strict ethical standards in such procedures. Currently, AIIMS provides this test to its patients.
Doctor’s Response
In a statement, the accused doctor claimed that the complaint dates back several years and was not made by a patient. He suggested that the AIIMS administration might not have pursued the allegations seriously, as they generally prioritize complaints directly from patients, who are considered the primary stakeholders in such cases.
“If any patient has an issue, they should be the ones to complain, not a third party. The complaint was filed when the FFA test was unavailable at AIIMS. Now, it is accessible. This is an attempt to tarnish my reputation,” the doctor stated.
