Association Pushes for Strengthening Medical Services in 33 Districts
Hyderabad, February 23 – The Telangana Government Doctors Association (TNGDA) has urged the state government to create 66 Civil Surgeon posts across 33 districts to improve medical services in government hospitals.
Key Demands of the Doctors’ Association
During a meeting with Health Minister Damodar RajaNarasimha, the association requested:
- Creation of 66 Civil Surgeon (General Line) posts, including:
- 33 posts for District Medical Health Officers (DMHO)
- 33 posts for Additional DMHOs
- Correction of errors in GO MS No. 142
- Fair promotion of public health doctors based on cadre strength and vertical seniority
- Inclusion of dental doctors in the public health department
- Conversion of Telangana Medical Policy Council to secondary-grade services
Association’s Concerns
- TNGDA President Dr. Narahari highlighted that when DMHO posts were initially created, Telangana had only 10 districts, but now there are 33.
- While the government has sanctioned 19 new posts, 5 of them are concentrated in Hyderabad, where existing infrastructure is inadequate to support more DMHO offices.
- The association insisted that each district should have a fully functional DMHO office, requiring the creation of 14 additional posts.
Government’s Response
- Health Minister Damodar RajaNarasimha acknowledged the concerns and instructed government secretary Dr. Christina to submit a report on possible solutions.
- The meeting was attended by senior health officials, including Director of Health Dr. Ravinder, TVVP Commissioner Dr. Ajay Kumar, and TNGDA representatives such as Dr. Lalu Prasad Rathod, Dr. Ravoof, Dr. Deenadayal, and Dr. Krishna Rao.
Next Steps
The government’s decision on the creation of new posts and policy changes will depend on the findings of the report submitted by Dr. Christina. If the demands are not met, the TNGDA may escalate their efforts to push for reforms in Telangana’s public healthcare system.
