Indore, Madhya Pradesh: Dr. Bharat Bajpai, a senior doctor at Govind Ballabh Pant District Hospital, is set to retire this August, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy—conducting over 15,000 post-mortems in the past 18 years without a single break, except for a month-long medical leave.
Dr. Bajpai’s unwavering dedication to forensic medicine has earned him recognition in the Limca Book of Records twice. His work, central to medico-legal cases and the pursuit of justice, has made him a respected figure in the field.
A Lifetime of Dedication
Dr. GL Sodhi, Chief Superintendent of the hospital, praised Dr. Bajpai’s relentless service, stating, “The post-mortem department was established on November 6, 2006, and Dr. Bajpai has been tirelessly working there ever since. His dedication is unparalleled, having conducted over 15,000 autopsies while rarely taking leave.”
Reflecting on his career, Dr. Bajpai shared his philosophy:
“The deceased have always been at the center of my duty. I love the dead as much as I do the living. Every post-mortem I conduct is with the hope that justice will be served in court.”
Commitment Beyond Personal Life
Dr. Bajpai’s devotion to his work was evident even on his son’s wedding day, when he performed two post-mortems before joining the celebrations. “Post-mortems are crucial in medico-legal cases and cannot be delayed. My family has always supported me in this responsibility,” he said.
Outside his office, thought-provoking quotes like “Death delights here to help the living” and “Will you not speak the truth for fear of consequences?” serve as reminders of his lifelong commitment to forensic medicine.
As he approaches retirement, Dr. Bajpai leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and justice, inspiring future generations of forensic experts.
