Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Wednesday that the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has approved ₹202 crore for the infrastructure development of Agartala Government Dental College. The government is also planning to create additional posts in the institution to enhance its functioning.
Foundation Day Celebration
Speaking at the second Foundation Day celebration of Agartala Government Dental College at Town Hall, CM Saha highlighted the rapid progress of the dental college. “Establishing a dental college in Tripura was a long-standing dream, realized in just nine months at the old building of IGM Hospital,” he said. The college, which currently has 50 seats, is the first of its kind in the North East.
Infrastructure Development and New Initiatives
Under the PM-DeVINE scheme, ₹202 crore has been sanctioned to boost the college’s infrastructure, with tenders already floated. CM Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare in Tripura, including district hospitals, and cited new initiatives such as:
- Opening a Cardiac Care Centre in Ambassa, Dhalai District.
- Performing free kidney transplants and planning liver and bone marrow transplants.
- Establishing a homeopathy and Ayurvedic college in the near future.
Strengthening Healthcare Workforce
Acknowledging the contributions of Tripura’s medical professionals globally, CM Saha underscored plans to create additional posts at the Dental College and improve coordination between departments for better execution of healthcare projects.
“Our government is committed to providing state-of-the-art healthcare facilities for the people of Tripura,” he said.
