Aspirants Advised to Verify FMGL Compliance Before Admission
New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a fresh advisory urging medical aspirants to exercise caution when considering admission to foreign medical institutions. Students must ensure that these colleges comply with the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021, to avoid potential challenges in securing medical registration in India.
The NMC highlighted that discrepancies in course duration, language of instruction, curriculum, or clinical training can disqualify graduates from practicing medicine in India. The responsibility for such disqualifications, the advisory stated, lies solely with the candidates.
Despite repeated warnings, some students continue to enrol in overseas medical colleges that fail to meet the prescribed standards. These institutions often use curricula and training methods that do not align with NMC requirements, rendering graduates ineligible to practice allopathic medicine in India.
The FMGL Regulations, effective since November 18, 2021, set strict criteria for medical education abroad, including specific mandates for course length, medium of instruction, syllabus, and clinical internships. Compliance with these regulations is mandatory for Indian students graduating from foreign institutions who seek registration in India.
The NMC strongly advises medical aspirants to thoroughly verify a foreign college’s adherence to these regulations before enrolling, ensuring their eligibility for medical practice in India.
