Karnataka Ayurveda Association Pushes for State-Run College and Teaching Hospital
The Karnataka State Ayurveda Post Graduate Doctors Association has launched a campaign urging the state government to establish a government Ayurvedic medical college and a 100-bed teaching hospital in coastal Karnataka.
Benefits for Coastal Residents and Students
Dr. Naveen K from the association highlighted that the proposed college and hospital would provide free Ayurvedic treatment to patients in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, reducing the need for residents to travel to Kerala for affordable care. The college would also expand educational opportunities, sparing students from having to study outside the region.
Existing Demand for Ayurveda in Coastal Karnataka
Association President Dr. Manjunath Poojary noted that, despite the area’s numerous medical institutions, there is no government-supported Ayurvedic college. With Ayurveda popular in the region for treating lifestyle and chronic health issues, the association believes a government-run facility would serve both the health and educational needs of the community.
