35-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Assaulting Doctors and Damaging ICU Equipment at Rajawadi Hospital Following Patient’s Health Crisis

Mumbai: A 35-year-old woman, Suchitra Ravindra Sonawane, was arrested by Tilak Nagar Police for allegedly assaulting doctors and staff at Rajawadi Hospital’s ICU. The incident occurred on November 7, 2024, following the worsening condition of her brother, 28-year-old Prakash Ravindra Sonawane, who was admitted with symptoms of fever, loose motions, and disorientation.

Prakash, who was initially placed in the male ward, was moved to the ICU on November 6 due to his deteriorating condition. He became disoriented and made incoherent claims, such as fearing for his sister’s safety and his own life. His sister, Suchitra, accused the hospital staff of causing her brother’s paranoia.

As Prakash’s condition worsened, doctors recommended medication, but when a nurse attempted to administer it, he resisted by pushing her away and removing his oxygen mask. To stabilise him, Dr. Yogita Choudhari, a medical officer at the hospital, explained that they had to temporarily restrain his hands. This action triggered an angry response from Suchitra, who then physically and verbally assaulted a ward boy, Nitesh Sadare. Dr. Choudhari filed a complaint, leading to Suchitra’s arrest.
