10-Year-Old and 15-Year-Old Brothers Die at Sadar Hospital; Mother Referred to RIMS Ranchi, Probe Ordered
Two brothers, aged 10 and 15, allegedly died after receiving treatment from a local traditional healer for fever in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, while their mother was referred to a hospital in Ranchi in critical condition, according to officials।
The three family members had reportedly been suffering from fever for the past three days in a village under Patratu block। Instead of consulting a qualified doctor or visiting a hospital, the family allegedly sought treatment from an ‘ojha guni’, described by officials as a sorcerer and traditional healer।
Two Brothers Die During Treatment at Sadar Hospital
As the condition of the two boys deteriorated, they were taken to Sadar Hospital। The brothers, aged 10 and 15, reportedly died one after another at the hospital।
Their mother was also admitted to the hospital। Considering her critical condition, doctors subsequently referred her to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi for further treatment।
Following information about the deaths, local police and administrative officials reached the area and began gathering details about the incident।
Medical Team to Investigate Cause of Fever
Ramgarh District Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said the two brothers and their mother had been suffering from fever for around three days before the family sought treatment from an ‘ojha guni’ rather than consulting a qualified medical practitioner or visiting a healthcare facility।
Dr Kumar said their condition subsequently became critical and they were brought to Sadar Hospital, where the two brothers died, while their mother was referred to Ranchi in critical condition।
The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the deaths। A medical team will visit the affected area to determine the nature and possible cause of the fever।
Officials Suspect Possible Swine Flu
Dr Anil Kumar declined to confirm the exact nature of the illness at this stage। However, he expressed apprehension that the cases could potentially be related to swine flu।
The authorities said the exact cause of the fever and deaths would be established after medical investigation and assessment by the healthcare team।
Villagers Advised Against Superstition
Officials appealed to villagers not to rely on superstition or unqualified treatment when dealing with illness। They urged residents to take patients to the nearest health centre or hospital promptly if they develop symptoms such as fever or their condition deteriorates।
