A private hospital in Lucknow and two doctors are under police scrutiny over an alleged baby-selling arrangement involving fraudulent hospital records. Investigators suspect that the newborn’s biological mother was admitted under another woman’s identity to conceal the child’s actual parentage and bypass legal adoption procedures.
Alleged Baby-Selling Arrangement
According to investigators, the alleged arrangement was planned several months before the child was born. A labourer from Bahadurpur, who already had three children, reportedly reached an informal agreement with a childless homemaker from Shanti Vihar to hand over the newborn after delivery.
The homemaker allegedly offered to fund the construction of a house for the labourer’s family in exchange for receiving the child. Police said the newborn was handed over at the hospital on August 3, two days after the delivery.
Investigators are examining whether the arrangement amounted to an illegal transfer of a child and whether it was intended to circumvent the legal adoption process.
Alleged Manipulation of Hospital Records
Police have alleged that the biological mother was admitted to the private hospital using the homemaker’s identity. As a result, hospital records reportedly identified the homemaker rather than the labourer as the child’s biological mother.
An FIR has been registered against the newborn’s biological mother, the woman who allegedly received the child, two doctors associated with the hospital and the hospital management.
The hospital administration has claimed that the woman was admitted under a fabricated name and that its staff were unaware of the alleged fraudulent admission. Police have said they are examining all aspects of the case and have not treated any explanation as conclusively established.
Police Investigation
The case came to light after officers from the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, along with Gudamba Police, acted on specific information and conducted a raid at the homemaker’s residence. The newborn was recovered during the operation.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Kiran Yadav said investigators are examining the hospital’s birth and discharge records, digital data, electronic evidence and financial transactions. She also said DNA fingerprinting of the newborn and the concerned individuals would be conducted if required to establish biological parentage.
Police are also investigating whether the alleged incident is connected to a wider network involved in illegal child sales or human trafficking.
Newborn Placed Under Child Welfare Committee
Following the recovery, the newborn was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee. The child is currently housed at a Government Children’s Home in Hazratganj while the investigation continues.
The investigation will examine the alleged role of the individuals named in the FIR, the authenticity of hospital records and whether any organised network was involved in the alleged transfer of the newborn.
