Government doctor seeks Rs.2000 for preponing surgery, arrested and suspended

Kasargod : A senior consultant from the department of anesthesia at the government hospital was caught red handed by the vigilance department while accepting Rs. 2000 from a patient for preponing his surgery at General Hospital, Kasargod. The issue relates to a patient visiting the senior consultant for the treatment of hernia in the month of July. The senior consultant told the patient that the date for surgery was available only on December and the patient has to wait for 6 months. When the pain of the patient become unbearable he visited the senior consultant for the third time and requested him to conduct the surgery. At this point the senior consultant demanded Rs.2000 for preponing the surgery. The patient approached the vigilance department and the senior consultant was caught red handed. The senior consultant was produced in the Thalassery vigilance court and is in remand.
