Police Continue Probe as Court Remands Delhi Dermatologist to Judicial Custody
In a significant development in the sensational East of Kailash domestic worker murder case, a Delhi court on Sunday remanded a dermatologist accused of killing his house help to 14 days of judicial custody after the completion of his two-day police remand.
The accused dermatologist was produced before the court after Delhi Police concluded custodial interrogation. Investigators had sought police custody to recover clothes allegedly worn during the commission of the crime and to collect additional evidence connected to the case.
Earlier, while granting police remand, the court had directed investigating officers to conduct the accused’s medical examination and present him before the Duty Magistrate after the custody period ended. Following the completion of the remand, the court ordered that the accused be sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
The case surfaced on June 18 after a neighbour informed police about a woman lying in a pool of blood inside the dermatologist’s residence in East of Kailash, South Delhi. Upon reaching the spot, police discovered the body of a domestic worker who had been employed by the family for several years.
According to investigators, a domestic dispute related to the possible termination of the victim’s employment may have contributed to the incident. Police suspect that disagreements within the household over the continued employment of the long-serving house help may have preceded the alleged murder.
During the initial stages of the investigation, police officials stated that the dermatologist allegedly admitted to the crime. Investigators have also recovered a cricket bat believed to have been used in the assault and a knife suspected to have been used to slit the victim’s throat.
The deceased, a 45-year-old woman originally from Kolkata, had reportedly worked for the dermatologist’s family for approximately 16 years. The incident has sparked widespread concern due to the brutal nature of the crime and the involvement of a medical professional.
Delhi Police are continuing their investigation to establish the complete sequence of events, gather forensic and documentary evidence, and determine the exact circumstances that led to the alleged murder.
