PWD Revises ₹57-Crore Hospital Expansion Plan to Improve Drainage and Future-Ready Infrastructure
Gurugram: In a significant development aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Haryana, the Public Works Department (PWD) has decided to revise the design of the proposed new building at Sohna Civil Hospital to address persistent waterlogging concerns and ensure the facility meets future healthcare demands.
According to health officials, the revised blueprint will incorporate key modifications, including an upgraded emergency ward and enhanced drainage systems to prevent flooding within the hospital premises. A consultant is expected to inspect the site shortly and recommend necessary design changes before construction activities resume.
Construction Delayed Amid Rising Patient Load
The delay in the hospital expansion project comes at a time when patient footfall at the existing Sohna Civil Hospital continues to increase, prompting residents to demand improved healthcare infrastructure and expanded medical services.
Recently, a senior official from the Health Department visited the construction site and assured that pending infrastructure requirements and the hospital expansion project would be expedited.
Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr. Ranvijay stated that the PWD is currently modifying the hospital’s blueprints and that construction work will begin only after the revised design receives final approval.
Focus on Long-Term Infrastructure Planning
A senior PWD official confirmed that the project plan is being revised to ensure long-term sustainability and functionality. Construction will restart once the updated design is approved by the concerned authorities. However, no fresh timeline has been announced for project completion.
₹57-Crore Project Faces Multiple Delays
The hospital expansion project, estimated to cost around ₹57 crore, was approved by the Haryana Government in 2021 after Sohna Civil Hospital was upgraded from a 50-bed facility to a 100-bed hospital. Since then, the project has faced several delays due to planning and design-related challenges.
The proposed new building will add 100 beds and include modern healthcare facilities such as an outpatient department (OPD), operation theatre, and blood bank, significantly enhancing healthcare services for residents of Sohna and surrounding areas.
Haryana Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure
The revised hospital project reflects the state government’s efforts to build resilient and future-ready healthcare infrastructure. Once completed, the upgraded facility is expected to improve access to quality medical care and reduce pressure on existing healthcare institutions in the Gurugram region.
In a related development, the Haryana Government recently appointed the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) as the executing agency for the proposed new civil hospital in Gurugram, replacing the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), in an effort to accelerate healthcare infrastructure projects across the state.
