State to add 1,275 critical care beds as Union Health Minister JP Nadda set to inaugurate new healthcare facilities
Andhra Pradesh is set to inaugurate medical infrastructure projects worth nearly ₹600 crore across multiple government hospitals on May 14, significantly boosting the state’s public healthcare capacity.
The announcement was made by Satyakumar Yadav during an inspection visit to the Government General Hospital Kakinada. He said the inauguration ceremony will be led by JP Nadda.
Andhra Pradesh to Add 1,275 Critical Care Beds
A major component of the healthcare expansion includes the establishment of 24 Critical Care Blocks (CCBs) across government hospitals in the state.
According to officials, the new CCBs will add 1,275 beds to Andhra Pradesh’s public healthcare infrastructure. Out of the 24 facilities, 22 hospitals will receive 50-bed critical care blocks, while one hospital each will have 75-bed and 100-bed facilities.
The blocks are being developed at teaching hospitals across the state, excluding Guntur, along with district hospitals in Tenali, Anakapalli, and Hindupur, and regional hospitals located in Narasaraopeta, Palakonda, Rayachoti, Bhimavaram, and Chirala.
Advanced Facilities Planned in Critical Care Blocks
Officials said each 50-bed Critical Care Block will include a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a six-bed mini-ICU, maternity wards, isolation wards, casualty units, and specialised beds for dialysis patients.
The 50-bed facilities are being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹23.75 crore each. Meanwhile, the 75-bed block in Narasaraopeta is being built at ₹36.35 crore, while the 100-bed facility in Tenali is being developed at a cost of ₹44.50 crore.
Healthcare authorities believe the upgraded facilities will strengthen emergency care and critical treatment services in government hospitals, especially in tier-2 and rural regions.
New Faculty Appointments at Rangaraya Medical College
During the inspection, Satyakumar Yadav also announced that 46 Assistant Professors and Associate Professors have been appointed at Rangaraya Medical College to improve medical education and patient care services.
₹35 Crore Development Plan for GGH Kakinada
Local MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao and District Collector MN Harendra Prasad stated that a ₹35 crore action plan has also been prepared for the development and modernization of Government General Hospital in Kakinada.
Health Minister Reviews Patient Care and Hospital Facilities
During his visit, the Health Minister interacted with doctors, hospital staff, and patients to assess the quality of healthcare services being provided.
He reviewed hospital cleanliness, availability of drinking water, bed occupancy, and patient care facilities. The minister also visited the de-addiction centre functioning within GGH Kakinada and interacted with patients and nursing staff there.
The large-scale infrastructure expansion is expected to significantly improve access to critical and emergency healthcare services in Andhra Pradesh’s government hospital network.
