No police complaint filed as matter reportedly settled; hospital calls incident “shameful,” promises stricter security protocols
Alleged Recording Sparks Alarm at Sola Civil Hospital
Ahmedabad: A disturbing privacy breach has come to light at Sola Civil Hospital, where a staff member was allegedly caught recording a woman patient inside an X-ray room.
The incident surfaced when the patient noticed the accused using his mobile phone to film her and immediately raised an alarm. Her relatives quickly intervened and confronted the individual on the spot.
Phone Check Reveals More Alleged Recordings
According to initial accounts, a search of the accused’s phone reportedly uncovered additional videos of a similar nature, raising serious concerns about repeated misconduct within sensitive hospital areas.
The accused has been identified as a driver associated with the community medicine department of GMERS Medical College.
No Police Complaint, No Legal Action Taken
Officials from Sola Police Station confirmed that no formal complaint has been registered by either the victim or hospital authorities. As a result, no legal proceedings have been initiated so far.
Reports suggest that the matter was settled privately between the accused and the patient’s family.
Hospital Authorities Condemn Incident
Medical Superintendent Dr Dipika Singhal described the episode as a “shameful incident” and confirmed that the hospital has taken immediate steps.
“We have asked the college dean to take strict action against the individual. Although he has been a long-serving employee with no prior complaints, this misconduct is unacceptable,” she said.
She also noted that the hospital police desk and the 181 Abhayam helpline were informed, even though the family chose not to pursue legal action.
Security Measures to Be Strengthened
In response to the incident, hospital authorities have announced plans to tighten access control in sensitive areas such as diagnostic rooms.
Key measures likely to be implemented include:
- Restricted entry to X-ray and diagnostic zones
- Enhanced monitoring of staff movement
- Stricter verification protocols for employees and visitors
The administration has also initiated disciplinary proceedings against the accused, who reportedly had unrestricted access due to his 15 years of service.
Growing Concerns Over Patient Privacy in Hospitals
The incident has once again highlighted serious concerns regarding patient privacy and safety in healthcare settings, especially in areas like X-ray rooms where patients are particularly vulnerable.
Despite the absence of a formal complaint, the case underscores the need for robust institutional safeguards and accountability mechanisms to prevent such violations in the future.
