Police Cite Inconsistencies, Wife’s Statement Contradicts Claims
Gaya: The professor and head of the neurosurgery department at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH), Gaya, has been arrested for allegedly lodging a false complaint and misleading the police in an extortion and death threat case involving his wife.
Allegations of Extortion Calls
The doctor had earlier approached the police, claiming that his wife had received two extortion calls demanding ₹1 crore and threatening her with death if the amount was not paid. His wife is a non-practising medical professional, and the complaint initially caused concern among law enforcement agencies.
Suspicion During Investigation
During the probe, police found several inconsistencies that raised suspicion. Investigators questioned the delay in filing the complaint despite the alleged threat to life and noted that the complaint was filed by the doctor himself, not by his wife, even though the calls were reportedly made to her phone.
Gaps in the FIR
Police officials pointed out that the FIR lacked crucial details, including the time of the alleged calls, the location from where they were received, and the proposed mode of payment for the extortion money. These omissions further weakened the credibility of the complaint.
Wife’s Statement a Turning Point
According to sources, a major breakthrough came when the wife recorded her statement before the investigators and did not support the allegations made by her husband. Her testimony significantly contradicted the original complaint and deepened police suspicion about the doctor’s role.
Second-Hand Complaint Questioned
Investigators also noted that although the threats were allegedly directed at the wife, the case was based on a complaint filed by her husband, making it a second-hand account. This unusual aspect became a key factor in the decision to arrest the doctor.
Personal Disputes Surface
As the investigation progressed, police examined the couple’s strained personal relationship. The wife reportedly alleged that her husband was involved in an extra-marital relationship with a paramedical staff member at ANMMCH and claimed to have messages exchanged between them, which she shared with the investigators.
Other Angles Under Probe
The wife also referred to an ongoing property dispute involving the doctor and some residents of the Gewalbigha locality in Gaya. Police said this angle is being examined as part of the wider investigation, as they continue to verify all aspects surrounding the alleged false complaint.
