Attendant Claims Delay in Emergency Care
Chikkamagaluru: An allegation of medical negligence has been levelled against a doctor at a government hospital after an attendant claimed that a patient struggling to breathe was neglected in the emergency ward, allegedly leading to his death. The claim has triggered public outrage after a video related to the incident went viral on social media.
Viral Video Sparks Controversy
The allegation surfaced after a video showed a patient lying on a stretcher while a doctor was purportedly seen talking on a mobile phone nearby. The person who recorded the video alleged that the doctor’s inattention and delay in providing treatment resulted in the patient’s death.
Patient Identified as 60-Year-Old Villager
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Manjunath, a resident of Lakshmipura village. Locals said he was suffering from severe breathing difficulties and was rushed to the government hospital for emergency treatment. The attendant claimed that Manjunath was gasping for breath for a prolonged period without receiving timely medical attention.
Alleged Delay in ICU Admission
The attendant further alleged that despite being brought to the hospital in critical condition, the patient was shifted to the intensive care unit only after a significant delay. It was claimed that this delay in escalation of care ultimately led to Manjunath’s death.
Hospital Denies Negligence
Hospital authorities have strongly denied the allegations. District Surgeon Dr Chandrashekar clarified that the doctor seen in the video had already examined the patient and was using the mobile phone to check X-ray reports of another patient. He stated that the patient was admitted to the ICU promptly but succumbed to pneumonia, stressing that there was no negligence on the part of the medical staff.
