Five Teams Deployed Across Two States
Lucknow: In connection with the alleged religious conversion and harassment case involving a doctor from King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow Police have intensified efforts to arrest the absconding accused. Five special teams have been deployed across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, as officials said the doctor has been evading arrest by frequently changing locations.
Reward Increased, Non-Bailable Warrant Issued
Police have already secured a non-bailable warrant against the accused. To speed up his arrest, the reward for information leading to his capture has been increased from ₹25,000 to ₹50,000. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vishwajeet Srivastava said search operations have been significantly ramped up to ensure the accused is apprehended at the earliest.
Parents Arrested in Conversion and Miscarriage Allegations
Meanwhile, police arrested the accused doctor’s parents on Monday, alleging their involvement in the religious conversion and forced miscarriage of two women medical students. The parents, aged 70 and 67, were arrested from a rented flat in Lucknow’s Thakurganj area. Investigators claim both parents played a role in the alleged offences.
Victims’ Statements Strengthen Case
According to police officials quoted by Hindustan Times, both survivors recorded their statements before a magistrate, alleging forcible religious conversion, sexual exploitation, and miscarriage, with the involvement of the accused doctor and his parents. One of the victims is a KGMU student, while the other is pursuing medical studies in Agra.
FIR Registered Under Multiple Sections
The case surfaced after the KGMU student filed a written complaint at Chowk police station on December 23. Based on her allegations, police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to rape, miscarriage, and marriage by deceit, along with Sections 3 and 5 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021. A similar complaint was later lodged by the Agra-based medical student, further widening the scope of the investigation.
