
Srinagar: Renowned Kashmiri gastroenterologist Dr Hameed Raina has once again brought international recognition to the region by securing another global honour for his expertise in advanced endoscopic ultrasound and modern gastroenterology procedures.
Prestigious Award at International Conference
According to Kashmir Dot Com, Dr Raina won the Best Video Award for the second time at the International Hepatopancreatic Biliary Conference held in Dubai this year. This achievement marks his fourth international honour in recent years, making him the first Kashmiri gastroenterologist to receive such global recognition in the specialised field of endoscopic ultrasound and interventional endoscopy.
Award-Winning Clinical Presentation
At the conference, Dr Raina presented his clinical work titled “EUS-Guided Cystogastrostomy and Direct Endoscopic Necrosectomy in Post-Pancreatitis Walled-Off Necrosis.” The minimally invasive technique showcased innovative management of severe pancreatic complications and received high praise from global experts for its precision and impact on patient outcomes.
Boost to Jammu and Kashmir’s Medical Reputation
Medical professionals at the conference lauded Dr Raina’s work as a significant contribution to gastroenterology, further strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s reputation in advanced medical care and research on the international stage.
Strong Academic and Professional Background
Dr Raina completed his MBBS from Government Medical College Srinagar and pursued his MD in Internal Medicine from Sher i Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences. He later completed his DM in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Tata Hospital Mumbai and further earned the MRCP UK qualification, reflecting a strong academic foundation.
Advanced Global Training and Fellowships
Driven by a passion for excellence, Dr Raina undertook several super-specialised fellowships at renowned international centres. These include training in motility disorders, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound, advanced therapeutic endoscopy, and third space endoscopy, equipping him with expertise in some of the most complex gastrointestinal procedures.
Pioneer of Modern Endoscopic Procedures
Dr Raina has introduced several advanced endoscopic techniques such as POEM for achalasia cardia, POES for Zenker’s diverticulum, STER and EFTR for submucosal tumours, G-POEM for gastroparesis, and EUS-guided liver biopsy and variceal coiling. His work reflects a pioneering approach to minimally invasive treatment.
