A postgraduate doctor in Internal Medicine has stirred a major debate after alleging that an Ayurvedic practitioner was prescribing allopathic medicines without the required qualifications. The issue came to light when the doctor shared a screenshot of a prescription on social media platform X, showing only modern medicines, including antibiotics and other advanced drugs.
Viral Post Sparks Online Debate
The doctor’s post quickly gained traction, leading to widespread discussions about cross-pathy practices in India. Many users expressed concern over AYUSH practitioners prescribing medicines outside their professional training, which could potentially endanger patient safety.
AYUSH Practitioners Under the Scanner
In his post, the doctor questioned why practitioners of Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and other traditional systems were prescribing modern medicines for conditions that did not warrant such strong drugs. He highlighted that such practitioners are neither trained nor licensed to use these medications.
Concerns Over Antibiotic Misuse
He further alleged that he had frequently come across prescriptions where AYUSH doctors recommended strong antibiotics like Meropenem, even for ailments as mild as simple diarrhoea. According to him, this misuse reflects a disregard for proper medical protocols and patient well-being.
Criticism of Curriculum Mismatch
The doctor expressed frustration over the contradiction between what AYUSH curricula teach and what some practitioners actually prescribe. He noted that if Ayurveda is being used as a shortcut to practise modern medicine “incorrectly,” then the problem lies deeper within the system. He also pointed out the irony of an Ayurvedic practitioner advising radiological tests such as USG W/A.
Threats After the Post Went Viral
Soon after his post circulated widely, the doctor reported receiving multiple direct messages, including threats urging him to delete the tweet. He clarified that most of these messages came from anonymous accounts rather than established professionals or influencers.
Doctor Refuses to Back Down
Despite the pressure, he refused to remove the post. He argued that if a single screenshot could shake an entire system, the flaw likely lay within that system. He emphasised that malpractice related to cross-pathy has persisted for decades and must be addressed.
Call for Accountability and Patient Safety
In his follow-up statement, the doctor assured his followers that he was safe and thanked them for their support. He reiterated that exposing such issues is essential to ensure patient safety, uphold medical ethics, and hold practitioners accountable.
