Kushinagar, UP: In a shocking case of alleged medical negligence, a 25-year-old woman and her newborn baby died during treatment at a private hospital in Khadda town, prompting police to arrest the attending doctor and seal the hospital.
The incident occurred on Friday night at Vibhrant Hospital, located at Maharana Pratap Chowk on Khadda-Nebua road. The deceased has been identified as Asma Khatoon, a resident of Rampur Jungle village under Hnumanganj police station limits. She was admitted to the hospital after experiencing labour pain, officials said.
According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Khadda) Mohammad Zafar, the hospital was found to be operating illegally and has been sealed. The attending doctor, identified as Dr Mohammad Sayed, was arrested on Saturday and is facing charges of medical negligence.
Asma’s family alleged that doctors initially claimed the surgery was successful and both mother and child were stable. However, within hours, the hospital staff began making excuses, demanding money and blood units, and later advised the family to shift her to Gorakhpur Medical College. The family further accused the doctor of misleading them and attempting to flee when confronted.
Local police, upon receiving information, intervened and arrested Dr Sayed. Khadda SHO Harshvardhan Singh confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections, and investigations are ongoing.
The tragic deaths sparked protests from the bereaved family, who placed the bodies outside the hospital gate in a show of outrage. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
