Jaipur, May 1: In a move to tighten oversight under the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS), the state government has issued a directive barring contractual doctors in government hospitals from prescribing RGHS medicines from their private clinics. The order comes amid investigations into alleged fraud by some medical practitioners, leading to the suspension of three doctors recently.
An official from the RGHS Project Director’s office clarified that under the Rajasthan Civil Services (Medical Attendance) Rules, 2013, contractual doctors do not fall within the official definition of “medical practitioners” authorized under the scheme. “Hence, they are not allowed to issue RGHS prescriptions from outside their government duties,” the official added.
The circular, issued on April 24, further restricts retired government doctors and resident postgraduate doctors from issuing prescriptions eligible for cashless medicine benefits under RGHS. Only in-service government doctors and those from RGHS-empanelled hospitals are now authorized to issue valid prescriptions under the cashless scheme.
The directive is part of a broader scrutiny of the RGHS to prevent misuse and streamline access to genuine beneficiaries.
