Escape from Hospital Custody
Pune: A 52-year-old gram sevak, Santosh Sathe, who was arrested in a molestation case, was rearrested on Wednesday after escaping from Sassoon Hospital in Pune.
Arrest and Hospitalization
Sathe was initially taken into custody by Karad Taluka police in Satara district for molestation charges. While in custody, he complained of chest pain and was admitted to Sassoon Hospital on Tuesday. A police constable was assigned to guard him in Ward No. 18.
Daring Escape
Early Wednesday morning, around 6:30 AM, Sathe fled the hospital while the constable on duty went to the washroom. His escape prompted an immediate search operation.
Rearrest Near Residence
By late Wednesday night, Karad Taluka police tracked Sathe near his residence and took him back into custody. He was transported to Pune on Thursday morning for a medical check-up before being taken back to Karad for further investigation.
Police Investigation Underway
Inspector Sampatrao Raut of Bund Garden police stated that the reason for Sathe’s escape is yet to be determined, and further inquiries are ongoing.
