Accused Created Multiple Fake Instagram Accounts to Harass Victim
Mumbai: A 25-year-old woman from south Mumbai has been arrested by the D B Marg police for allegedly creating multiple fake Instagram accounts in the name of a doctor and posting morphed obscene photos to harass and defame him.
Case Unfolds After Doctor Receives Alert
According to the police, the complainant, a doctor working at a reputed hospital, was informed on February 18 by a woman friend that she had received a follow request from an Instagram account bearing his name. Upon checking, she found obscene images of him posted on the account.
“When the complainant investigated further, he discovered multiple fake accounts under his name, all containing morphed, explicit photos,” an officer said. Realizing that someone was deliberately attempting to damage his reputation and career, he approached the DB Marg police station, leading to the registration of a case under the BNS and IT Acts.
Police Investigation Leads to Arrest
During the probe, investigators traced the mobile number linked to the Instagram accounts and identified the suspect as a woman from south Mumbai. By tracking IP addresses, the police located her residential address, leading to her detention.
Motive Behind the Crime
Senior police inspector Sanjay Gaikwad stated that during questioning, the accused confessed. She claimed to have been in a relationship with the doctor, but after he started ignoring her, she decided to take revenge by creating fake Instagram profiles and posting the altered images.
The police have seized the mobile phone and SIM card used to commit the crime. Further investigations are underway.
