Cyber Fraudsters Kept Gwalior Senior Citizen Under Psychological Pressure for 25 Days

A shocking case of cyber fraud has emerged from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, where a 90-year-old retired Air Force doctor was allegedly cheated of approximately ₹2.5 crore through a prolonged “digital arrest” scam. The elderly victim was reportedly kept under psychological pressure for nearly 25 days before the fraud came to light.

According to the complaint, the doctor received a phone call on January 25 from a person claiming to be linked with an investigating agency. The caller alleged that the doctor’s official documents had been misused in illegal activities and warned him of imminent arrest and serious legal consequences.

To intensify the fear, the fraudsters claimed that he was under “online surveillance” and maintained constant communication through video calls and repeated instructions. He was allegedly told not to inform his family members, citing confidentiality and potential legal repercussions.

Taking advantage of his advanced age and emotional vulnerability, the accused reportedly subjected him to sustained intimidation and mental harassment. Over the course of nearly 25 days, he was gradually persuaded to transfer large sums of money into multiple bank accounts.

The total amount transferred during this period is estimated to be around ₹2.5 crore. The victim reportedly complied with the demands out of fear, believing the threats of arrest and legal action to be genuine.

The fraud was eventually detected when bank officials noticed unusually high-value transactions from his account. Concerned by the pattern, the bank manager questioned the doctor about the purpose of the transfers.

It was during this interaction that the doctor explained the circumstances and realised he had been deceived. Following the bank’s intervention, he approached the office of the Superintendent of Police to file a formal complaint.

Superintendent of Police Dharamveer Singh confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Police are now working to trace the accused and recover the defrauded amount, while urging citizens to remain cautious against digital arrest scams.
