Chennai: The 8th National Siddha Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Anna Centenary Library Auditorium in Chennai. The event, organized by the Central Council for Research in Siddha, the National Institute of Siddha, and the Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy of Tamil Nadu, saw significant participation from Siddha experts, professors, researchers, and students.
Minister Highlights Tamil Nadu’s Success in Implementing National AYUSH Mission
Union Minister of State for AYUSH and Health, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, addressed the event through a video message. He highlighted the Tamil Nadu government’s effective implementation of the National AYUSH Mission, underscoring the importance of the state’s contribution to the promotion of Siddha medicine. The Minister also lauded the central government’s efforts in supporting Indian systems of medicine, including the creation of a dedicated Ministry for AYUSH under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr. Rajesh Kotecha’s Remarks and Recognition of Siddha Contributions
Dr. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of AYUSH, attended as a special guest and spoke about the role of Siddha medicine in strengthening immunity during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also emphasized the government’s support for Siddha medicine through initiatives like the release of research grants for undergraduate and postgraduate students in Siddha. During the event, he unveiled the third volume of the Compendium of Siddha Formulary of India in Tamil and presented research grants to students for their contributions to the field.
Achievements and Future of AYUSH in India
Dr. Kotecha shared encouraging statistics, stating that 90% of people in rural areas and 95% in urban areas are now aware of AYUSH systems, with 50% of the population using these alternative medicines. He termed this the “golden era of AYUSH,” adding that the sector has witnessed significant growth, particularly with over 900 AYUSH startups across the country. The event also featured herbal exhibitions and Siddha medicine sessions, celebrating the progress and future potential of AYUSH.
Participation and Recognition
Over 1,600 individuals participated in the event, including key figures such as the Director General of the Central Council for Research in Siddha, N.J. Muthukumar. The day’s celebrations also included awards and recognition for outstanding students and researchers in the field of Siddha medicine.
