New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old woman from Alipur village has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a four-month-old child from Safdarjung Hospital. The woman, identified as Neetu, fabricated a story about being pregnant and deceived her husband and family into believing she had given birth to a boy.
Background: Neetu had been married for seven years and struggled with infertility, which reportedly led her to create a fictitious narrative about her pregnancy. Last week, she left her home under the pretext of being admitted to the hospital for delivery. She then called her husband, claiming that she had given birth to a boy. Eight hours later, police arrived at her doorstep to discover that the newborn was not her child.
The Kidnapping Incident: The real mother of the kidnapped child, a 32-year-old woman from Madhubani, Bihar, had arrived at Safdarjung Hospital with her family for medical treatment. While in the waiting hall, she befriended Neetu and entrusted her to watch her son while she went to get some milk. Upon her return, she found neither Neetu nor her child.
Investigation: The police investigation began when the mother reported the kidnapping at around 2 PM on January 29. Upon searching Neetu’s bag, police discovered Metro tickets and DTC bus tickets from different dates, which led them to trace her movements. CCTV footage revealed that Neetu had taken the child in an auto-rickshaw and traveled to Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.
Further surveillance and investigation led police to track Neetu’s car, registered to an address in Alipur village. A raid was conducted at the location, where Neetu was arrested.
Confession: During interrogation, Neetu admitted to deceiving her husband, Rajiv, and father-in-law, Karan Singh, by pretending to be pregnant. She had left home on January 27 under the pretext of hospital admission and later informed her husband that she had given birth to a baby boy.
The kidnapped infant was recovered and returned to his rightful parents.
