Chennai: After two deaths of doctors earlier this month, another medico death of a 26-year-old PG Paediatrics medico has shocked the medical fraternity. Dr. Thamizh Azhagan, the PG Paediatrics medico was allegedly found dead in his room after he took permission to take a break as he got severe headache while on duty. He was found dead on the next morning due to a myocardial infarction. The tragedy occurred as the PG medico was on continuous duty for the past 2 days. The tragic death once again highlights the serious issue of long working hours and the resulting strain on the medical professionals, leading to adverse health outcome. Many associations of doctors have demanded that the government should increase the doctor’s strength in the hospital as that will bring parity with the patient population and will give some relief to the PG medicos and house surgeons.
