A new 100-bed district hospital is set to be established in Latur under the National Health Mission, aiming to strengthen healthcare services in central Maharashtra.

Foundation Stone to Be Laid on April 18

The foundation stone for the proposed hospital will be laid on Saturday (April 18) by Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale, who also serves as the guardian minister of Latur district.

The ceremony will be held at the premises of the College of Agriculture on Nanded Road and will be presided over by Babasaheb Patil. Prakash Abitkar will attend the event as the chief guest.

Boost to Healthcare Infrastructure in the Region

According to officials from the state health department, the upcoming hospital is expected to significantly enhance the district’s healthcare infrastructure once completed. The facility will improve access to medical services and help reduce the burden on existing hospitals in the region.

Demand to Name Hospital After Shivraj Patil

Meanwhile, a political demand has emerged regarding the naming of the hospital. Former mayor and NCP leader Vikrant Gojamgunde has urged authorities to name the hospital after late Congress leader Shivraj Patil.

In a memorandum submitted to Minister Bhosale, Gojamgunde highlighted Patil’s contributions to Latur, Maharashtra, and the nation. Shivraj Patil had a distinguished political career, serving as Lok Sabha Speaker, Union minister, and Governor.

Focus on Expanding Public Healthcare

The project reflects the Maharashtra government’s continued focus on expanding public healthcare infrastructure under national and state-level initiatives, ensuring better medical facilities for residents in growing districts like Latur.
