Private Hospital Doctor Denies Wrongdoing

A doctor at a private hospital in Kattakada, near Thiruvananthapuram, has denied allegations of medical negligence following the death of a two-and-a-half-year-old child. The child, who was admitted with breathing difficulty and fatigue, was later declared dead after being shifted to a higher medical centre.

Child Admitted With Respiratory Distress

According to reports, the deceased was one of a pair of twins. She was taken to Mamal Hospital in Kattakada after experiencing tiredness and severe respiratory distress. Upon admission, she was administered steam inhalation therapy and later given two injections as part of emergency treatment.

Condition Worsened After Treatment

The treating doctor stated that despite immediate intervention, the child’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Recognising the seriousness of the situation, the medical team arranged for her immediate transfer by ambulance to a higher centre for advanced care.

Adrenaline Administered as Precaution

Speaking to the media, the doctor said the child was in a critical state at the time of admission. He explained that adrenaline was administered as a precautionary life-saving measure when her condition worsened. Even during the transfer to Neyyar Medcity, the child reportedly had a weak pulse.

Declared Dead on Arrival

Despite efforts to stabilise her, the child was declared dead on arrival at the referral hospital. The doctor maintained that all decisions were taken in the best interest of the patient during a critical medical emergency.

Family Files Police Complaint

However, the child’s family has alleged serious lapses in treatment and has filed a complaint with the police. Authorities have recorded the statement of the father and initiated an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Postmortem to Determine Cause

Officials have confirmed that the exact cause of death will be determined only after the postmortem examination. Until the medical report is finalised, the matter remains under active investigation.

Similar Allegations Reported Earlier

This incident follows a similar case previously reported by Medical Dialogues involving alleged negligence at a private hospital in Nagapattinam, where a 16-year-old student died while undergoing treatment for severe abdominal pain. Authorities are expected to examine all medical records before reaching any conclusions in the present case.
