LUCKNOW — In one of the most significant administrative overhauls of the state’s medical services this year, the Uttar Pradesh government has terminated the services of five medical officers and initiated stringent disciplinary proceedings against 16 other high-ranking health officials. The sweeping action, ordered on May 8, 2026, signals a “zero tolerance” policy toward professional negligence, corruption, and unauthorized absenteeism within the public healthcare sector.
The crackdown was spearheaded by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the state’s health portfolio. Following a comprehensive review of the Health Department’s operations, an official statement confirmed that five doctors were summarily dismissed for being absent from their duties for prolonged periods without authorization. Authorities stated that these practitioners had “stayed away from medical work” for months, effectively deserting their posts and depriving the public of essential care.
The terminated doctors, spanning districts from Gorakhpur to Amethi and Auraiya, were cited for long-term unauthorized absence. Alongside these firings, the state has initiated disciplinary action against 16 other officials, including a Chief Medical Officer, for allegedly violating government norms, specifically regarding the unauthorized approval of private clinics and ultrasound centers.
