Speeding Suspected as Hyundai Creta Overturns After Colliding with Bike and Car; NHAI Orders Safety Audit

Ludhiana – In a heartbreaking road accident near the Verka Milk Plant on Ludhiana-Ferozepur Road, a 31-year-old doctor lost his life on Saturday morning after his vehicle collided with a bike and a car before overturning.

The deceased, a resident of Sector 39 on Chandigarh Road, was reportedly en route to Jagraon in his Hyundai Creta around 9:00 AM when the fatal incident took place. As per Sarabha Nagar police, the doctor’s vehicle first hit a two-wheeler, then rammed into a Maruti Swift registered in Haryana. The violent impact caused the Creta to overturn, leaving it severely damaged.

Eyewitnesses rushed to rescue the doctor, pulling him out of the mangled wreckage, but he had already succumbed to grievous injuries, particularly head trauma. His body was sent to Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

“The condition of the vehicle suggests high speed. A detailed probe is underway,” said Inspector Madhu Bala, SHO of Sarabha Nagar police station.

Family in Swift Car Escapes with Minor Injuries

The Swift car occupants, a family returning to Fatehabad after attending an event in Jalandhar, sustained only minor injuries. They had halted overnight in Ludhiana and were on their way back when the crash occurred. The collision’s impact also burst a tyre of their vehicle.

Speeding and Road Safety Under Scrutiny

Initial investigation points to speeding as the likely cause of the accident. The tragic incident has sparked concerns over road safety, especially regarding the lack of crash barriers along the stretch.

In response, NHAI Project Director Priyanka stated that a road safety audit will be conducted to assess the safety infrastructure on the route.

“Legal formalities are being completed and further investigation is in progress,” confirmed SHO Madhubala to Hindustan Times.

The tragic death of the young doctor adds to the growing list of road fatalities, reigniting the call for stricter enforcement of traffic norms and improved highway safety measures.
