Woman doctor duped of Rs.25 Lakhs at Pune’s Sassoon Hospital

Pune: A senior woman doctor of Pune’s Sassoon Hospital was duped of Rs. 25 Lakhs by cyber thugs who posed as Mumbai Police and then later as CBI officers to exhort money from the doctor. The woman doctor received a call from an unknown number claiming to be an employee of Telecom Company. He told the woman that her number will be disconnected in 2 hours. When the doctor asked for the reason she was connected to another person who introduced himself as Pradip Sawant of Mumbai Police and told her that an arrest warrant has been issued against her in a financial fraud case. The doctor denied any involvement but the said Pradip Sawant said that her case has been transferred to CBI. She received another call when a person claiming to be CBI ask her to transfer Rs.25 Lakhs for verification purpose which will be later returned back. The doctor transferred Rs. 25 Lakhs in the account of the cyber thugs only to receive a call demanding more money. The doctor became suspicious and filed a complaint at Cyber Police Station. The case is under investigation by the Cyber Police.
