Medical emergency on stage
Indore: A 40-year-old woman doctor suffered a cardiac arrest while addressing delegates at an international urology conference in Indore on Saturday. She collapsed on the stage during her presentation and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.
Condition worsened during session
According to witnesses, the doctor’s health deteriorated mid-session, after which she lost consciousness and fell on the dais. The incident caused panic among delegates attending the conference.
CPR administered immediately
Doctors and medical professionals present at the venue promptly initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). After initial revival measures, she was rushed to a nearby hospital, where her spontaneous breathing was restored.
Shifted for advanced treatment
Given the critical nature of her condition, she was later referred to another private hospital for advanced care. She is currently undergoing intensive medical management.
Doctor identified
Bhaskar English reported that the doctor has been identified as Dr Shreen Butole, a urologist from Mangalore, who had travelled to Indore to attend the international conference.
ICU care underway
Dr Butole is presently admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), where a multidisciplinary medical team is monitoring her condition round-the-clock, hospital sources said.
Event briefly suspended
The incident occurred at the Brilliant Convention Centre, the venue of the International Urology Conference attended by specialists from India and abroad. The programme was temporarily halted as emergency treatment was provided.
Rising concern over cardiac arrests
Cardiac arrest cases are being reported with increasing frequency, including among younger adults. Medical experts attribute this trend to sedentary lifestyles, high stress levels, smoking, obesity and possible post-Covid cardiovascular complications.
