Bhopal: A tragic incident of alleged medical negligence has emerged from Sidhi district, Madhya Pradesh, where a pregnant woman was reportedly denied admission to a government-run hospital despite being in critical condition. Due to the delay in receiving medical care, she delivered her baby outside the Sidhi district hospital on a stretcher, and sadly, the newborn girl survived for only 30 minutes.
The incident took place late Sunday night at the Sidhi district hospital. Initially, the woman was admitted to a primary health center in Majhauli, located about 50 km from Sidhi. Her condition worsened, and she was referred to the district hospital. Upon arrival, the medical staff at the Sidhi hospital referred her to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital (SGMH) in Rewa, nearly 70 km away.
As the woman’s labor intensified, she was unable to be transported immediately. Despite her critical condition, she was left outside the hospital, where women from her family used sarees to create a makeshift cover under which she gave birth to a baby girl. Tragically, the newborn died shortly after birth.
The woman’s family staged a protest outside the hospital, accusing the staff of gross negligence. According to Nikhil Kumar, a relative, the hospital staff had refused to admit the woman, claiming she had been discharged earlier. Security guards allegedly assaulted the family when they sought help.
In response to the incident, Sidhi District Collector Swarochish Somavanshi ordered a detailed inquiry. “Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings,” the collector assured. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concerns about the state of healthcare services in Madhya Pradesh.
