BELAGAVI — In a major breakthrough, the Tilakwadi Police have cracked the sensational murder case of a 40-year-old Ayurvedic doctor, revealing a cold-blooded plot orchestrated by his wife and her lover to pass off a brutal killing as a natural or accidental death.

The Victim and the Discovery

The deceased, identified as  Avinash Ashok Suppannavar, a resident of Babale Galli in Anagol, was an Ayurvedic therapist who ran the Ankush Ayurvedic Care Clinic. On the evening of March 5, 2026, he was found dead inside his clinic with a visible head injury.

Initial Deception and Mother’s Suspicion

Initially, the doctor’s wife, Lakshmi Avinash Suppanna (29), claimed that her husband suffered from low blood sugar and high blood pressure. She told investigators that he likely slipped, hit his head on a table, and died from an accidental fall.

However, the victim’s mother, Kamala Ashok Suppanna, suspected foul play and filed a formal complaint at the Tilakwadi police station on April 6, prompting a deeper investigation.

Forensic Evidence and Arrests

Belagavi Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase stated that forensic evidence was pivotal in exposing the lie.

  • Inconsistent Injuries: While an accidental fall usually results in a single injury, the post-mortem revealed four distinct injury marks on the head and internal damage to the heart.
  • Scientific Analysis: Scene-of-crime officers conducted bloodstain pattern and luminol analyses, which directly contradicted the wife’s version of events.
  • Technical Intelligence: Clues obtained through technical surveillance led police to the second suspect, Kailash Balakrishna Achital (43), who runs a nearby mobile phone shop.

The Motive and Method

Investigation revealed that Lakshmi and Kailash were in an illicit relationship and viewed Avinash as an obstacle.

  • The Attack: On the day of the incident, Kailash  allegedly entered the clinic and assaulted Avinash  with a gas cylinder, inflicting fatal head and chest injuries, while Lakshmi remained at home to maintain her alibi.
  • Confession: Both accused have reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation and have been remanded to judicial custody.
