Bengaluru — The Karnataka State Government has suspended Dr. Shankar K.N., Chief Medical Officer (Emergency Medical Officer) of Victoria Hospital, over allegations of corruption and issuance of fake medical certificates.
The action follows a report submitted by the Director and Dean of the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI). Citing the findings, Mohammed Mohsin, Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department, issued the formal suspension order on Wednesday.
The suspension is pending further investigation into the charges, which reportedly involve serious misconduct in the discharge of official duties. The government has not disclosed further details regarding the nature of the certificates or the extent of the alleged corruption.
Victoria Hospital, one of Bengaluru’s oldest and largest public health institutions, is affiliated with BMCRI and plays a key role in emergency and general healthcare in the city.
An internal inquiry is likely to follow, officials indicated.
