Hyderabad : Amid growing concerns over a fresh surge in COVID-19 cases, Union Minister and Secunderabad MP G. Kishan Reddy visited the State-run Gandhi Hospital on Monday to assess healthcare infrastructure and preparedness across departments.
During his inspection, the minister interacted with hospital authorities, including the Superintendent and medical staff, reviewing patient amenities, departmental efficiency, and the operational status of critical infrastructure such as oxygen generation plants installed during the pandemic.
“Gandhi Hospital is the largest government healthcare facility in the Secunderabad Parliamentary constituency, which I represent,” Reddy stated while addressing the media after the visit. “The aim is to ensure the hospital is equipped to handle any spike in patient numbers. With COVID-19 cases rising again, both hospital personnel and the general public must remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols,” he urged.
The minister emphasized the need to fill vacant Resident Medical Officer (RMO) posts and operationalize newly sanctioned departments to improve hospital response capacity.
He also reviewed the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, under which Aadhaar-linked health cards are being distributed to patients. “These cards allow beneficiaries to access cashless treatment not just at Gandhi Hospital, but also at other empanelled institutions under the scheme,” he added.
The visit comes at a time when Telangana, like several other states, is witnessing a gradual uptick in COVID-19 infections, prompting renewed focus on public health infrastructure and emergency preparedness.
