Health Department Issues Show-Cause Notice; Inquiry Underway Following Patient’s Complaint

The Health Department has launched an inquiry against a Unani doctor posted in the AYUSH wing of the District Hospital in Rampur after allegations surfaced that he advised a patient to purchase allopathic medicines from a private medical store. A show-cause notice has also been issued to the doctor following the complaint.

Patient Alleges Prescription of Medicines from Private Store

The controversy came to light after a video circulated on social media in which a patient claimed that he was prescribed medicines that were not available through the hospital’s authorised supply system. According to the patient, he had visited the AYUSH wing for treatment of a skin-related ailment and was subsequently directed to buy medicines from a private medical shop.

The complainant alleged that he spent nearly Rs 580 on the prescribed medicines, raising concerns over adherence to treatment protocols within the AYUSH department of the district hospital.

Health Department Initiates Investigation

Following the complaint, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Deepa Singh confirmed that an investigation has been initiated into the matter. She stated that AYUSH practitioners are not authorised to prescribe allopathic medicines and must provide treatment strictly within the medical system for which they are qualified, registered, and appointed.

Dr Singh said the department is taking the allegations seriously and is examining all aspects of the case.

Adequate Unani Medicine Stock Available, Says CMO

The CMO further stated that sufficient stocks of Unani medicines are available in the AYUSH wing of the District Hospital and that patients are generally expected to receive medicines through the hospital’s authorised distribution system.

She noted that treatment procedures and medicine distribution are governed by established guidelines and protocols. In view of the complaint, a formal explanation has been sought from the doctor concerned, and his response will be reviewed as part of the inquiry process.

No Conclusion Yet; Further Action to Depend on Findings

Officials said the investigation is currently underway and no conclusion has been reached regarding the allegations. Authorities are examining all relevant records and facts before making any determination.

The Health Department stated that any further action, if required, will be based on the findings of the inquiry and the explanation submitted by the doctor. Appropriate measures will be taken in accordance with departmental rules and applicable regulations.
