Udaipur/Mumbai: In a sensational development, renowned Bollywood filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt were arrested in Mumbai on Sunday for allegedly cheating Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF, of ₹30 crore. According to officials, the senior doctor had planned to produce a biopic on his late wife, but the project allegedly turned into a massive financial fraud.
Rajasthan Police to Seek Transit Remand Today
A team from Udaipur Police detained the couple and will seek their transit remand in Bandra court on Monday. The arrest follows intense investigations into allegations filed earlier this month.
FIR Alleges False Promises of ₹200 Crore Returns
As earlier reported by Medical Dialogues, an FIR was registered on November 8 at Bhupalpura Police Station against Vikram Bhatt, his wife, a local aide named Dinesh Kataria, and six others.
The complaint alleges that Bhatt convinced Dr Murdia to finance films with the promise of earning returns up to ₹200 crore. However, the profits never materialised.
Despite the serious allegations, Vikram Bhatt has denied all charges, claiming the police have been “misled.”
Two Others Already Arrested; Investigation Expands
This arrest follows two earlier arrests in the case, officials said. Rajasthan Police are continuing their probe to identify financial trails and verify the roles of all accused individuals. Reports suggest that the team collected key evidence before detaining Vikram and Shwetambari.
Doctor Approached Police After Project Stalled
According to PTI, Dr Murdia approached the Bhupalpura police after repeated assurances about the biopic project failed to materialise. Feeling deceived, he filed a complaint under charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust.
The case has sparked major discussion in both medical and film circles, especially given the scale of alleged fraud.
Similar High-Value Fraud Cases Emerging
In a separate case previously highlighted by Medical Dialogues, a 44-year-old doctor from Erragadda was duped of ₹14.61 crore in a massive online trading scam. The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau is still investigating the digital financial trail.
