Two hour pen down strike by government doctors in Haryana

Doctors observe a strike against the direct appointment of SMOs at Civil Hospital, Karnal

Chandigarh: The government doctors of Haryana went on a two hour pen down strike on July 15 from 9 am to 11 am to press for their long pending demands. The Haryana Civil Medical Service (HCMS) Association had announced the strike and stated that the reason behind the strike is a strong resentment among the members of the association caused by the insensitive and callous attitude of the Haryana government towards their long pending demands. The strike caused disruption of all OPDs in government hospitals, while services at other government centres were also affected by the strike.

The HCMS has been pressing for its four demands which was being agreed by the government six months ago which was mutually agreed between the Haryana government and HCMS. HCMS said the reason for the strike was that out of the four issues mutually agreed, two issues i.e. Specialist cadre and PG course bond reduction were moving at a snail’s pace while the other two issues agreed by the government i.e. Amendment in service rule to stop direct recruitment of SMO & provision of ACP & allowances at par with central government doctors have not yet been initiated by the Haryana government. The HCMS warned that if their demands are not met, HCMS will go on an indefinite strike from July 25th onwards.
