Haldwani: Two government health officers narrowly escaped with injuries when a massive boulder, loosened by continuous rainfall and landslides, struck their vehicle on the Haridwar–Nainital route on September 2, 2025.

Narrow Escape Near Aam Parao

The incident occurred near Aam Parao on the Nainital–Haldwani road. According to reports, the driver attempted to steer clear, but the boulder crashed onto the vehicle’s bonnet. Both officers sustained minor injuries and were immediately rushed to Haldwani for treatment, where their condition is said to be stable.

The accident caused a long traffic jam, with vehicles stranded on the route for hours, reports the Uttarakhand News Network.

Extreme Weather Across North India

The accident is part of a larger weather crisis in North India, where relentless heavy rains have triggered landslides, flash floods, and significant infrastructure damage. Uttarakhand remains among the worst-hit states, with cloudbursts in August causing massive destruction, leaving at least 69 people missing and thousands displaced.

IMD Weather Warning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued heavy rainfall until September 7 across northwestern states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, and Haryana, reports the Lokmat Times.

Related Disasters

Medical Dialogues earlier reported that in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, a deadly cloudburst in Chositi village left 46 people dead, including two CISF personnel, prompting the health department to reinforce critical medical infrastructure in affected areas.
