Ludhiana: A renowned doctor couple in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar had initially reported a robbery of ₹15 lakh which turned out to be a multi-crore heist with the police recovering a whopping ₹3.51 crore from four robbers after their arrest. It is noteworthy that the doctor couple, Dr Harkamal Bagga and her husband Dr Wahigurupal Singh Sidhu, are authorised by four countries, including England, New Zealand, Australia and Canada to conduct medical examinations for immigrants.
After it came to the light that ₹3.51 crore has been recovered from the doctor couple, IT had started probing the case. A senior I-T officer said: “We have recorded the statements of both husband and wife. They are authorised immigration doctors dealing with Canada, Australia and the UK cases. They have admitted that around Rs 3 crore was robbed from their house. They have still not given us the exact figure. We are waiting for the police to conclude its probe following which we will start our proceedings.”
The aged doctor couple further told investigators that they have no child. Their only daughter had died in an accident many years ago. Since then they have been living by themselves in their Ludhiana house. The recovered money, along with gold and silver jewellery, is still lying at the malkhana of Dugri police station, said Inspector Madhu Bala, the SHO. “Till now we have not received any superdari order of the court from the couple to release their money and other valuables. They are the case property. The total recovered cash is Rs 4.03 crore,” said the inspector.
