Stresses on Closing Service Gaps, Improving Cleanliness, and Learning from Private Sector
Agartala – Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, made an unannounced inspection of IGM Hospital and the Agartala Government Dental College on Saturday, urging doctors and staff to ensure that no gaps exist in patient care.
During his visit, the Chief Minister interacted with doctors and medical personnel, emphasizing the importance of resolving service-related shortcomings. He noted that while the hospital, situated in the heart of the city, is one of the oldest and most vital healthcare facilities in Agartala, certain issues still persist.
“Even with the tremendous patient load, the doctors and health staff are doing commendable work. However, cleanliness remains a concern due to the heavy footfall, and there is a lack of awareness among patients’ relatives,” said Dr. Saha.
He highlighted the need to draw lessons from the corporate healthcare sector, stating that although government hospitals often spend more, there are still areas where efficiency and service quality can improve.
Dr. Saha assured that necessary steps and directives would be issued to overcome existing problems. He reiterated that the purpose of his surprise visit was to get a firsthand understanding of on-ground realities and take immediate corrective action where needed.
Inspection of Infrastructure and Staff Attendance
The Chief Minister also reviewed the seating arrangements, hospital infrastructure, and staff punctuality. He praised the proactive role of the Medical Superintendent of IGM Hospital and visited various departments to assess the kind of patients being treated.
“I didn’t inform anyone before coming. This helps in understanding real-time challenges. We must identify the shortcomings and address them systematically to deliver 100% service. Problems will exist, but solving them is our responsibility,” Dr. Saha added.
He also acknowledged significant improvements in IGM Hospital’s overall performance compared to the past and affirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery across the state.
