Trichy : Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) staged a protest near the Manapparai Government Hospital on Monday, highlighting severe shortages of doctors, nurses, and healthcare staff, along with the improper disposal of medical waste on the hospital premises.
Led by senior CPM leader R Suresh, the protesters raised slogans demanding a halt to the transfer of duty nurses to other facilities and the immediate, daily removal of accumulated waste.
Revenue officer Selvam and the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Tamilmani engaged with the protesters, assuring them that their grievances would be communicated to senior health authorities for swift action.
Following these assurances, the CPM members called off their protest. However, CPM’s Manapparai sub-district secretary P K Sivaraj, along with executive committee members V Chidambaram and N Gopalakrishnan, warned that they would resume protests if corrective measures were not implemented promptly.
