TN DMS suspends license of Multispecialty hospital for medical negligence

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Clinical Establishment Act (TNCEA) license for registering hospital has been suspended by the Directorate of Medical & Rural Health Service (DMS) of a private hospital located at Adambakkam in Chennai on account of charges of medical negligence against the hospital. The officials of DMS who inspected the hospital after the complaint of 13-years boys’ leg being amputed due to negligence found inadequacies in facilities at the hospital. The official ordered the closure of the hospital and shifting of the patients in the hospital.

The DMS official narrated that the boy had rheumatoid disease and no alternative method of treatment was attempted by the hospital. The hospital did not opt for a specialist opinion and told the boy’s parent that to save the life of boy they have to ampute his legs. The hospital imputed the leg of boy without explaining the course of action to the parents of the boy.  The DMS official said the hospital should rectify the inadequacies brought to the notice of the hospital and then make an appeal before the DMS.
